At the DOE Genesis Mission Summit 2026, Google DeepMind and Google Cloud announced a $40 million commitment of AI tokens and cloud credits to accelerate the pace of American scientific discovery. This expands on earlier pledges to support the White House's Genesis Mission, which aims to double the speed of scientific breakthroughs within a decade.
The commitment includes in-kind access to Google DeepMind's frontier AI for science portfolio for DOE's Genesis Mission awardees. Tools such as AlphaEvolve, a Gemini-powered coding and discovery agent; AlphaFold 3 for biomolecular structure prediction; AlphaGenome for understanding DNA variation; WeatherNext for AI weather forecasting; and AlphaEarth Foundations for planetary mapping will be made available.
Additionally, Google will provide Gemini for Government seats and tokens for one year to tens of thousands of users across DOE National Laboratories. This secure platform supports research, operations, and management, providing a unified foundation for the DOE mission.
Early impacts are already visible. At Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Dr. Henry Kvinge uses AlphaEvolve to explore complex mathematical systems, uncovering hidden connections that would take years to find manually. At the National Laboratory of the Rockies, Dr. Steven R. Spurgeon's team deployed Gemini to cut microscope calibration time from over 90 minutes to about 13 minutes—an eightfold improvement—and reduced manual focusing steps from 50 to two.
