Google DeepMind has unveiled the Fairwind Program, a limited-access initiative designed to provide governments and trusted partners with its most advanced cyber defense capabilities. The program aims to address the dilemma faced by defenders who must choose between large, expensive frontier models and smaller open-weight models that require significant in-house tooling.
The Fairwind Program offers access to Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber, a specialized cyber model, combined with the CodeMender harness. This combination enables defenders to find, verify, and fix vulnerabilities at an agentic scale, generating deployment-ready patches in minutes rather than weeks, all within a secure cloud environment.
Initial access is being staged to partners critical to societal resilience, including governments, national cyber authorities, critical infrastructure operators, and core technology platforms. Participants must adhere to strict operational standards, such as limiting access to internal cybersecurity teams and implementing multi-factor authentication.
With over 650 participating partners globally, the program is part of Google's broader commitment to cyber resilience. Additionally, Google.org has committed over $100 million to cybersecurity funding, including $36 million for 35 cyber clinics that have supported more than 1,250 hospitals, school districts, and municipal utilities in the U.S.
