Anthropic Launches Claude for Teachers, Offering Free Premium Access to US K-12 Educators

Key points

Anthropic has unveiled Claude for Teachers, a new initiative aimed at supporting K-12 educators in the United States. The program provides verified teachers with free access to premium Claude capabilities, a library of teaching skills, and integration with evidence-based curricula mapped to academic standards in all 50 states.

The product is designed to address the gap between educational best practices and the limited time and resources teachers face. Research shows that methods like differentiation and mastery-based learning improve student outcomes, but teachers often struggle to implement them due to budget constraints, large class sizes, and planning overload. Claude for Teachers aims to help educators reclaim time for what matters most—direct interaction with students.

Claude for Teachers connects to Learning Commons, giving Claude access to academic standards and the underlying learning competencies and progressions. This allows Claude to generate scaffolded, standards-aligned lesson plans. The platform also integrates trusted curricular resources such as OpenSciEd and Illustrative Mathematics' IM v.360.

Educators can now connect Claude to a range of K-12 tools, including ASSISTments, Brisk Teaching, Canva Education, Coteach, Diffit, Eedi, MagicSchool, Snorkl, and TeachFX. These integrations enable tasks like generating auto-scored math problems, creating interactive activities, designing classroom materials, and providing personalized instructional feedback.

Key features include lesson planning from high-quality instructional materials, differentiation for learners at various readiness levels, and autonomous task execution via Claude Code and Cowork. For example, teachers can upload class data for analysis and schedule recurring tasks like reviewing exit tickets and adapting lesson plans.

Claude for Teachers is built with privacy in mind: it is for educators only, data is not used for model training, and student information is protected under a K-12 Data Processing Addendum compliant with FERPA. Anthropic is also working with the American Federation of Teachers to align with gold standards for safety and privacy. Teachers can sign up for free until June 30, 2027, for a full year of access. A dedicated offering for schools and districts is coming soon.
