Anthropic has released Claude Opus 5, a new model that delivers near-frontier intelligence at half the price of its most advanced model, Claude Fable 5. The model is available today on all platforms, priced at $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens—the same as its predecessor, Opus 4.8.
Opus 5 sets new state-of-the-art results on coding and knowledge work evaluations such as Frontier-Bench and GDPval-AA, though it remains behind Mythos 5 on cybersecurity tasks. It is designed for daily use and serves as the default model on Claude Max and the strongest model on Claude Pro.
On Frontier-Bench v0.1, Opus 5 surpasses all other models, more than doubling Opus 4.8's performance at a lower cost per task. On CursorBench 3.2 at max effort, it performs within 0.5% of Fable 5's peak score but at half the cost. On ARC-AGI 3, its score is three times higher than the next-best model, and on Zapier AutomationBench, its pass rate is about 1.5 times the next-best model for the same cost.
Opus 5 also excels in scientific research, showing improvements over Opus 4.8 across all life sciences evaluations, particularly in organic chemistry and protein-related tasks. It scores 10.2 percentage points higher on spectroscopy data inference and 7.7 percentage points higher on protein function prediction.
In safety evaluations, Opus 5 is Anthropic's most aligned model to date, with lower rates of deceptive behavior and reduced susceptibility to misuse. It does not advance frontier capabilities in risky dual-use areas like biology or offensive cybersecurity, remaining behind Mythos 5 in those domains. The model's safeguards are less restrictive than Fable 5's, with classifiers expected to intervene 85% less often.
Alongside Opus 5, Anthropic is releasing beta features including mid-conversation tool changes and automatic fallbacks on the API, allowing flagged requests to route to another model instead of being blocked.
